In the context of the Cité Internationale des Arts’ Hors-les-Murs programming, Beth Weinstein and Catherine Baÿ exhibited the outcomes of a semester-long workshop with 2nd year architecture students (ENSA Paris-Malaquais) around the theme “se manifester – manifestation“— to appear and to demonstrate.
The lab—Urban Score|Partition Urbaine—critically reflected on public space in the current permanent state of emergency as discussed by Judith Butler and Giorgio Agamben, amongst others. This inquiry is particularly timely given recent occupations and demonstrations, and in relation to performativity and protest in public space that took place fifty years ago, during the May 68 period. This research in common, between architecture and choreography, aims to decompartmentalize and to interweave diverse practices, to think together about how to inhabit public space, and embody “politics” in the sense proposed by Hannah Arendt: politics as a space “between people.”
Manifestez-vous! was held at The Window, 1 rue Gustave Goubler, Paris 75010 from June 14 to 24, 2018.
